Rudy a priest?!

When I found out he was a priest I was amazed that the town drunk was once a important person to God. I also like how Ben visits him and I can already guess that the guy is lonely deep down inside. I want to know why he quit being a priest. I also think he is a real good guy and that he seems to know a lot. I sill don't get what Malcolm X is. I know it is a book but I get confused what the book is about.

  1. You are doing some really good thinking Bethany! :o) Malcolm X was a very famous black man who lived at the same time Martin Luther King Jr did. He also believed in civil rights. Unlike King, who preached non-violence, Malcolm X encouraged blacks to rage against whites and inequality. He was a radical of his time, and many blacks credit him for making civil rights move along. Does that help?

  2. Yes thank you Ms. Walton it now I understand. ;) but as read more in the book I read that Rudy was a child molester. I can't belive that I just thought he was a guy that gave up on god or something. That was the last thing I thought of him and I understand why to Ben the whole situation is crazy!
Not only did Rudy admit this all to Ben but that whole thing with Dallas and her uncle is also crazy. There are just so many secrets in this entire book. But now Ben is worried that Dallas will find out that he was hanging out with Rudy and it is going to end horribly. Also another question did Rudy ever really do anything to that boy he was talking about. The only thing I recall reading was that Rudy talked to the boy and then later the boy got depressed and then later commit sucide. Did Rudy say something bad or did he do something eles to the boy?

  5. Malcolm X I guess helps Ben see a different point of view in the world and agrees with a lot of the things the book writes about.
